Preventing chronic diseases for workers and employees

Nutrition experts also believe that when performing any activity, energy is consumed. The heavier the work, the higher the need for energy. A reasonable diet must first ensure that it meets the energy needs of workers. Lack or excess of energy is harmful to the body.

If you have a diet that does not ensure enough energy, it will make your body tired quickly, reduce productivity and labor efficiency, and worse, if this condition lasts long, it will cause the body to become malnourished and weak. exhausted. On the contrary, if the daily diet provides too much energy, it will easily lead to diseases such as overweight, obesity, dyslipidemia, etc. This is a risk factor for chronic diseases. such as: Blood pressure, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, atherosclerosis,…

Therefore, each worker, especially those who do heavy work, needs to calculate their own energy levels appropriate to their work level to provide them accordingly as well as regularly monitor their weight to see if they are healthy. Are you at risk of malnutrition or obesity?

BMI (Body Mass Index) or body mass index is a parameter often used to evaluate whether the relationship between height and weight of each person is appropriate. Normally, this index in men is between 18.5 – 25 and in women between 18 – 23 is normal. If your results are outside this range, it is not good, warning of an inappropriate diet. .

According to the Energy Needs Table recommended by the National Institute of Nutrition, a heavy worker between the ages of 18 and 60 needs a nutritional diet that ensures 2,800 – 3,000 calories/day. According to some calculations, while a 1% increase in calories in a poor diet can help increase labor productivity by 2.27%, a poor diet that does not meet the necessary needs can cause people to lose weight. Labor productivity reduces by up to 20%.

However, in addition to achieving the total target amount of calories, a reasonable diet also needs to ensure that these calories are distributed evenly throughout the day, especially for manual workers. If energy is provided only twice a day, metabolism will be significantly affected and you will not have enough energy between meals to be able to work.
