Second Tornado Warning Issued for Greene County, Ohio
A severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located seven miles south of Xenia, Ohio, at , moving east at 30 mph, prompting a new tornado warning for the area.
This warning comes after Greene County experienced a previous tornado warning that expired Thursday morning as storms moved out of the region, according to reports from The Xenia Gazette.
The current threat extends beyond Greene County, as 32 tornado warnings were issued across the state of Illinois, Indiana and Ohio on . Specifically, warnings were in effect for Clark, Clay, and Crawford counties, among others in Illinois; Bartholomew, Brown, and Clay counties, among others in Indiana; and Greene, Montgomery, and Warren counties in Ohio, according to data from TornadoPath.com.
While Ohio is currently under threat, no tornado warnings were reported in Canada as of on .
A broader tornado watch remains in effect for Butler and Warren counties, north of Cincinnati, until 11 p.m. Tonight, according to the National Weather Service. This watch, initially issued Thursday afternoon, was extended to include these southwest Ohio counties, as well as several in the Dayton area. Dearborn County, Indiana, also remains under the watch, while Ohio and Switzerland counties in Indiana are no longer included, Cincinnati.com reported.
The National Weather Service warns that the severe thunderstorms within the watch area are capable of producing large hail, damaging winds, and isolated tornadoes. Localized flooding is also possible.
The OhioWX Network also alerted residents to the tornado watch, stating it is in effect until 11 p.m. For Butler, Champaign, Clark, Clinton, Darke, Greene, Miami, Montgomery, Preble, and Warren counties.
