Wariewa tested positive for banned drugs in a doping test last December, but the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) ruled on the 14th that he would continue to participate in the Beijing Winter Olympics.
“Doping in children is evil and should not be tolerated. If support staff such as doctors and coaches provide minors with drugs that improve athletic performance, they will be suspended for life. I personally think that I should be put in prison. “
He also pointed out that Russia’s sports culture needs to change. In Russia, he said, “Older generation coaches and doctors are coaching underage athletes. I strongly hope that the Russian Ministry of Sports will change this situation.”
The issue of Wariewa will be handled by the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) in the future. WADA may file an objection with CAS if it determines that the report from RUSADA is inadequate.
