The first initiative, called Daybreak, is a security program designed to assist cyberdefense teams in identifying and responding to threats more rapidly. According to the company, Daybreak integrates OpenAI’s artificial intelligence models with Codex, an agentic system focused on coding, to reduce the time elapsed between the discovery of a vulnerability and its remediation.
OpenAI stated that the program enables defenders to reason across various codebases, analyze systems that are unfamiliar to them, and uncover subtle vulnerabilities that might otherwise be missed.
CEO Sam Altman addressed the launch on the social media platform X, noting the evolving nature of the field.
"AI is already good and about to get super good at cybersecurity. we’d like to start working with as many companies as possible now to help them continuously secure themselves," Altman wrote.
The company acknowledged that the same capabilities used for defense could potentially be exploited by malicious actors. To mitigate this risk, OpenAI said that Daybreak incorporates proportional safeguards, verification, trust, and accountability.
Industry Pressures and AI-Driven Threats
The introduction of Daybreak follows increasing warnings from the cybersecurity industry regarding the potential for AI-driven attacks. This environment includes the recent launch of the Claude model by competitor Anthropic, which includes a tool known as Mythos.

The challenge now is helping companies integrate these systems into the infrastructure and workflows that power their businesses. DeployCo is designed to help organizations bridge that gap and turn AI capability into real operational impact," Dresser said.
In a subsequent interview with CNBC on May 11, 2026, Dresser noted that the process of deploying AI can be difficult for enterprises. She stated that while businesses are adopting new models, chief executive officers have expressed difficulty keeping pace with what she described as compounded innovation.
