McAfee, a beloved personality in both the wrestling and sports media worlds, has announced a temporary hiatus from his WWE commitments, citing exhaustion and the need to focus on his personal life and other professional endeavors.
The Demands of a Multi-Faceted Career
Pat McAfee, known for his energetic commentary and engaging presence, has been a prominent figure in WWE,especially with his role on Monday Night Raw. Though, the demanding schedule, coupled with his other critically important commitments, has led him to step back. McAfee candidly shared his feelings of burnout, admitting he felt he was “staring down what you went through there” in reference to the intense schedules of others.
“I knew this moment was coming,” McAfee stated. “I knew it was going to happen at some point and it happens to people. So, I talked to people about it happening and what they went through and as Money in the Bank was happening, I was like, ‘Oh my god, this is it, I’ve finally hit it.'”
Acknowledging Support and Misunderstandings
McAfee expressed gratitude towards WWE head Nick Khan for his assistance in navigating this transition. He also addressed the perception among some wrestling fans that he wasn’t fully committed or “putting everybody over” on WWE TV.
“In doing Raw, his daily talk show, being a parent to a young child, and other commitments, McAfee saeid he was trying his best the entire time and ‘trying to put everybody over’ on WWE TV - something he feels wrestling fans didn’t think he was doing.”
Finding relief and Recharging
The decision to step away, even temporarily, has already brought a sense of relief. By reducing his WWE obligations, specifically by no longer attending Monday Night Raw, McAfee has reclaimed valuable time and energy.”‘(Raw) is an honor to be a part of, but…I stopped going to Monday night Raw, so that took away two planes and a two-hour sleep night a week away from the schedule. And it was like, stack a couple of weeks, I feel like a human again,’ he said.”
This break allows him to recharge and focus on his well-being, a crucial aspect of maintaining his high-energy persona.
The Future: A Look Ahead
while McAfee’s return to WWE is not imminent, he maintains a deep affection for the company. His immediate focus will be on his upcoming college football coverage for ESPN, which begins in late August.
“If he does return, it likely won’t be for a while as his work with ESPN’s college football coverage begins in late-August.”
McAfee concluded by emphasizing his love for WWE and the memories he’s made, but also his realistic assessment of his current capacity.
“…I will always love the WWE and I miss it, but I didn’t think I would have made it. I was eyeing football season around the corner and I was, like, ‘I don’t know if I’m gonna be able to survive this thing,'” he explained.
the wrestling world will undoubtedly miss McAfee’s unique contributions, but his commitment to his health and other professional passions is a testament to his authentic approach to his career.
