Strengthening Security in Africa: Burundian Commandos Complete Training
The training of Burundian commandos shows a growing desire to strengthen security in the face of external threats in Africa.
Due, 14/9/2024 – In accordance with the national defense policy, Major General Niyiburana Jean Claude of the Burundi National Defense Force (FDNB) attended the patenting ceremony of 255 soldiers from the 136th commando session. These soldiers were trained at the Gitega Commando Center for three months.
The project for an African army dates back to 2002, during the African Union summit, an idea supported by leaders such as Gaddafi and Mandela. The aim was to create the African Reserve Force (ASF), a reserve force to protect African interests in the face of foreign interventions. Funded mainly by Gaddafi, the project gradually died after the latter’s assassination in 2011.
However, the Alliance of Sahel States, since September 16, 2023, has brought this vision back to life, adapting the concept to the current reality.
