PayPal’s Storefront Ads Expand E-Commerce Reach with Agentic AI

PayPal is rolling out “Storefront Ads,” a new initiative designed to enhance the online shopping experience. The company is using its transaction data to transform product recommendations into immediate purchase opportunities within the ad itself. This move aims to help merchants of all sizes expand their e-commerce reach in an increasingly agentic commerce environment.
The integration of checkout within the ad storefront allows consumers to make purchases without leaving the content they are viewing. After completing the transaction, they are seamlessly returned to their original browsing location. This frictionless approach is intended to capture consumers wherever they are, whether on desktops, mobile devices, or emerging digital platforms.
Mark Grether, general manager for PayPal Ads, said that conventional e-commerce is evolving. He noted that agentic commerce can sometimes dilute brand experiences. He added that shopping is now something that comes to consumers, rather than something they actively seek out.

Last month,PYMNTS explored the impact of agentic artificial intelligence (AI) on e-commerce with Scott Hendrickson,chief revenue officer of Firmly. Hendrickson pointed to the success of TikTok Shop as an example of how contextually embedded commerce can drive high-volume sales of impulse buys.
According to that report, agentic AI extends the concept of embedded commerce to any platform where a shopper begins their research.
