Persona 5 Royal: A Must-Play JRPG
If you’ve been on the fence about jumping into the world of Persona, now is the perfect time. Persona 5 Royal isn’t just a great JRPG; it’s a cultural phenomenon. You play as a high school student by day and a Phantom Thief by night, infiltrating the hearts of corrupt adults to change their ways.
The gameplay loop is incredibly addictive, blending social simulation with turn-based combat. Building relationships with your confidants unlocks new abilities and deepens the story, while exploring the stylish and surreal “Palaces” offers challenging battles and compelling narratives. Each Palace feels like a full season of an anime, with solid character development, laughs, and plenty of emotional moments.
If you recently played IGN’s 2024 Game of the Year, Metaphor: Refantazio, this is a great chance to check out Atlus’ hallmark series with plenty of the same mechanics. Otherwise, I highly recommend this entry point to anyone who’s considered getting into the modern generation of turn-based JRPGs. you can explore the rest of the Persona franchise after you’ve experienced this masterpiece.
