Why would Petro be considering this new tax reform proposal?
For several weeks now, some of President Petro’s ministers have raised the need to present a tax reform. One of them was the Minister of Health, Guillermo Jaramillo, who said that he was to finance the health sector after the failed reform that was not approved by Congress.

For his part, the Minister of Finance, Ricardo Bonilla, said at the time that the reform would seek to adjust corporate income, by reducing taxes on companies and increasing taxes on high-income people.
In December 2022, the Congress of Colombia approved the first tax reform of the Petro Government, an initiative that sought to raise 19.7 billion pesos (about 5,181 million dollars today).
