Colombian President Gustavo ‍Petro warned the Donald trump government following a UN ⁢call for investigation into an alleged attack by the ⁤United States against a⁣ boat with eleven people ⁢on board,reportedly‍ linked to the Aragua Train⁢ and allegedly transporting drugs.

UN Statement on Lethal Force and‍ Drug Trafficking

The UN Human rights Office stated on Friday, September 5th, that any⁣ state action ⁢to⁤ combat drug trafficking ‍must ‍adhere to international‍ law.Ravina shamdasani,a spokesperson,emphasized in Geneva ⁣that this does not justify extrajudicial killings. “As for drug-related crimes, to⁣ be clear, people should not be killed for consuming, trafficking, selling, or ⁤possessing drugs,” she explained.

Shamdasani further added that the fight against drug trafficking must not deviate from the principles of legality, and officials are responsible for upholding them. “To be clear, the intentional use ⁢of lethal force is only permissible ⁤as a last resort against‍ an individual posing an imminent threat to life,” she stated.

Any deaths occurring during law enforcement operations must be investigated independently, swiftly, and transparently, according to Shamdasani.
