Fuel prices have risen for the second day in a row in the country. Petrol price was hiked by 90 paise per liter and diesel by 84 paise per liter. After 138 days, fuel prices were hiked in the country yesterday. Yesterday, petrol price was hiked by 88 paise per liter and diesel by 85 paise per liter. In addition, the price of LPG cylinders for domestic use was increased by Rs 50. In two days, petrol price was hiked by Rs 1.78 per liter and diesel by Rs 1.69 per liter. Under the current circumstances, a similar increase in fuel prices can be expected in the coming days. In Kochi, the current price is Rs 956 per domestic cylinder. With the increase of Rs 13 per five kg cylinder, it has gone up to Rs 352. When the transport cost is taken into account, in many places the cost of a cylinder to reach home can cross Rs.1000.

Rising international oil prices in the wake of the Russia-Ukraine war are a sign that fuel prices will rise. International oil prices have fallen below $ 100 after $ 130 following the war, but are currently above $ 115. India is hopeful that Russian oil will remain stagnant in the wake of the sanctions. Russia, which has met more than 40 per cent of Europe’s oil demand, has offered India oil at a lower rate. Efforts are on to complete the transaction in rupees. It is estimated that the arrival of Russian oil in India, which currently imports more than 80 per cent of its oil, will reduce fuel prices.

Fuel prices in major cities

In New Delhi, the revised price for a liter of petrol is Rs 97.11. 88.31 per liter of diesel. In Mumbai, a liter of petrol costs Rs 111.72 and a liter of diesel Rs 95.84. In Thiruvananthapuram, a liter of petrol costs Rs 108.06 and a liter of diesel Rs 95.11. Petrol price has crossed Rs 100 here since June 26 last year. In Kochi, petrol is priced at Rs 105.74 per liter. Diesel is priced at Rs 93.02 per liter. Kozhikode: Petrol price reached Rs 100 on August 5. Today, a liter of petrol costs Rs 106.18 and diesel Rs 93.45.

Crude oil prices

Crude oil prices rose in international markets yesterday. It is trading at $ 116.01 a barrel. OPEC nations have said they will increase production soon, but fuel prices continue to fluctuate. The rupee had gained over 76 against the dollar in yesterday’s. At the Interbank Foreign Exchange (Forex) market, the rupee was trading at 76.13 a dollar. Yesterday it was 76.42. The value of the Russian currency, the ruble, has fallen sharply in the wake of the sanctions.
