(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Hwang Jae-ha = “I think I gained confidence in myself after appearing on ‘Physical: 100’. While exercising, I often thought, ‘Is it right for me to exercise like this?’ “I felt like the exercise had meaning.”

In ‘Physical: 100 Season 2 – Underground’ (hereinafter referred to as ‘Physical: 100’ Season 2), it was former CrossFit athlete and YouTuber Amoti (real name Kim Jae-hong) who defeated 99 prominent competitors and won the final championship.

On the 3rd, Amoti met with reporters at a cafe in Jongno-gu, Seoul and shared his thoughts on winning and the story behind the filming.

In January 2021, while on his way to the gym to exercise on a scooter, he was involved in a car accident and suffered a major injury that broke his left ankle bone. He is said to have successfully recovered despite undergoing a 10-hour long surgery.

Amoti explained, “At that time, the doctor said that I might not be able to exercise in the future and that even walking might be difficult. I thought about what I could do if I didn’t exercise, but exercise was the only thing I could do.”

He added, “Now my ankle is better than before, so I can exercise. In the past, as a CrossFit athlete, I was greedy for my grades, but now I enjoy working out and having fun.”

‘Physical: 100’ is a program that features a competition between 100 people to determine who has the best body (physic). What does the winner, Amoti, think the best physique is?

He answered, “CrossFit pursues a total of 10 physical abilities. I think you can only have the best body if you develop each ability. However, the technical part cannot be left out.”

Amoti chose the fourth quest, the competition for survival within the team, as the most difficult moment in the entire process of ‘Physical: 100’ Season 2. It was a mission in which only one of the colleagues who had fought together as a team up to the moment survived and the rest were all eliminated.

Previously, Amoti was eliminated in the second quest maze domination battle, but survived thanks to being chosen by Jeong Ji-hyun, a wrestler who ranked first in the repechage contest, and later teamed up with Jeong Ji-hyun to survive the third quest.

Regarding this, Amoti confessed, “Ji-hyun, who selected me, had to beat her older brother to move up, so a thousand thoughts came to mind.” He added, “I won in the end, and although I felt good, I also felt sorry (to Jeong Ji-hyun).”

The interview on this day also included former firefighter Hong Beom-seok, who took second and third place in Season 2 of ‘Physical: 100’, rugby player Andre Jin, and producer Jang Ho-gi, who directed the program.

In particular, Hong Beom-seok is the only one among the 100 contestants who appeared in Season 1. As a former member of the Army’s 707th Special Mission Battalion, he took first place in the World Firefighters’ Competition, the strongest firefighting competition, but suffered the hardship of being eliminated in the first quest in Season 1.

He said, “I was so upset after being eliminated quickly in Season 1 that I didn’t even watch the show and didn’t allow my family to watch the show. I started training again because I felt like I had many shortcomings, and thankfully, I got an offer to appear in Season 2. “I tried again,” he explained.

He added, “I worried a lot because the same thing as Season 1 could happen again, but my wife told me, ‘Just go out if you don’t want to regret it for the rest of your life,’ so I was able to gain courage. I gained confidence because the results were good as I worked hard.”

Hong Beom-seok also said, “I would be lying if I said I didn’t feel regretful about coming in second place. However, I don’t regret it as I poured everything I could into it.”

‘Physical: 100’ Season 2 Andre Jean

Andrejin, who ranked 3rd, showed a provocative appearance on the broadcast, saying, “I will show that rugby players are the strongest,” but in the interview that day, “I was confident that rugby players were the strongest, but through ‘Physical: 100’, I realized that was not the case. “He joked.

Andrejean said, “After the list of contestants was revealed, I had many friends who joked with me and asked, ‘There are many rugby players with better athletic ability, so why are you appearing?'” and “After the broadcast, I was grateful to them for showing how athletic rugby players are.” “I heard that a lot,” he explained.

He added, “I’m currently receiving a lot of SNS (social networking service) messages from rugby players around the world. There are many messages thanking me for showing the mental strength of a rugby player rather than just athleticism.”

Behind their activities was producer Jang Ho-gi, who designed the huge plan. It is said that over 300 tons of sand was used for Season 2, and the walls of the maze where the second quest took place were 6 km long.

Producer Jang explained, “I thought it was important to make the performers immerse themselves in the quest as much as possible rather than making them feel like they were on set,” and “So I even brought the hammer that was actually used to create the mine to the set.”

‘Physical: 100’, which was a huge hit in Season 1, is also on the rise in Season 2, ranking first in Netflix’s weekly ratings. Naturally, interest is focused on whether Season 3 will be produced.

Producer Jang said, “It hasn’t been confirmed yet, but we are positively discussing the production of Season 3.” He added, “If the good response to season 2 continues, I would like to create and show a new type of content in the next season that will involve participation from more countries.”
