Artificial Intelligence Data Platform VANA Secures Additional Investment

Artificial intelligence data platform VANA has announced that it has attracted additional investment, bringing its total funding to $25 million. Notably, Coinbase Ventures participated in this strategic round.

VANA’s investors include Polychain, which invested in the company’s seed round, and Paradigm, which participated in its Series A investment. Paradigm’s investment in VANA is particularly notable, as it is the only AI portfolio in which the company has invested.

A significant challenge facing AI researchers is the scarcity of data. Most data is concentrated in centralized companies, and as the public Internet data that can be used to train AI models is depleted, researchers are facing a ‘data wall’.

VANA proposes a system that provides fair compensation to users who provide data while solving this data shortage problem. Users can pool their data through a data DAO and jointly own a database.

“It’s fascinating to see how the VANA team thinks about the future of user-owned data,” said Jackson Dahl of Paradigm. “I’m excited to see what kind of AI products they come up with.”

VANA aims to build a user-owned AI ecosystem. The platform, an EVM (Ethereum Virtual Machine) compatible layer 1 blockchain, features ‘a data DAO that safely protects data by allowing users to gather data and prove their contribution, ownership of AI models created by contributors, and data and AI model tokens that support a flexible incentive structure.’

Currently, the VANA testnet is operating the ‘R Data DAO with 140,000 Reddit users, the Twitter Data DAO founded by early Bittensor participants, and the LinkedIn Data DAO.’

“With this funding, we will accelerate the development of user-owned AI and further strengthen support for the decentralized AI project ecosystem,” VANA said.
