Prabowo Allocates Land at HI Roundabout for Islamic Organizations’ Offices

Prabowo Allocates Land in Jakarta for New Islamic Institutions Complex

JAKARTA – President Prabowo Subianto has designated approximately 4,000 square meters of land in front of the Hotel Indonesia (HI) Roundabout in Central Jakarta for the construction of a complex to house the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) and other Islamic organizations. The announcement was made during a briefing at an event commemorating the inauguration of the MUI leadership for the 2025-2030 period at the Istiqlal Mosque on Saturday, February 7, 2026.

“Today, I can say that as President of the Republic of Indonesia, I have provided land in front of the HI roundabout of approximately 4,000 meters for a building for the MUI and for Islamic bodies,” Prabowo stated, according to reports.

The planned complex will serve as a central hub for a range of Islamic institutions, including the National Zakat Agency (Baznas) and various Islamic community organizations requiring office space. Prabowo indicated the building could potentially reach 40 stories, pending a decision from Minister of Religious Affairs Nasaruddin Umar.

The initiative follows a request from Minister Umar, who reportedly highlighted the lack of a clear and representative location for the MUI’s current offices. Prabowo admitted he was unaware of the MUI’s existing location, stating, “I’m sorry too. I don’t know exactly where the MUI office is.”

The President emphasized the importance of locating these institutions in the heart of the capital city. “Later, the offices of Islamic institutions will be in the heart of the capital city of Jakarta,” he said. He envisions the area around the HI Roundabout as more than just a commercial district of luxury hotels and shopping malls, but also a space that accommodates and supports Islamic institutions.

Prabowo also touched upon plans to establish a fund management institution for the community, suggesting it could potentially manage up to Rp500 trillion (approximately US$32 billion) annually if properly administered.

The allocation of land at the prominent HI Roundabout underscores the administration’s commitment to supporting and recognizing the role of Islamic organizations in Indonesian society. The move is seen as a symbolic gesture, placing these institutions at a central and strategic location in Jakarta. The President stated that the area should not solely be defined by commercial development, but also provide facilities for Islamic institutions.

This development builds on previous engagement with Islamic leaders. In August 2025, President Prabowo met with representatives from 16 Islamic mass organizations in Hambalang, West Java, to discuss national challenges and strategies for maintaining peace and social stability. Attendees included leaders from Muhammadiyah, Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) and the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI).

The President’s announcement follows his inauguration in October 2024, where he greeted citizens along Jalan Sudirman-Thamrin, including near the HI Roundabout.
