Sony Unveils Enhanced PS5 Pro Console
Sony’s new generation game console, the PlayStation 5 (PS5), was released in 2020. Four years later, an online press conference was held to announce the enhanced “PS5 Pro” version of the console, expected to be released on November 7, priced at US$699.99 (approx. NT$22,529).
Enhanced Performance and Features
The PS5 Pro has finally made its official debut with stronger performance and a more expensive price. At the beginning of the press conference, it was directly stated that the PS5 Pro would be launched and games such as “God of War”, “Ghost of Tsushima” and “Marvel’s Spider-Man” were used to review its performance.
The PS5 Pro aims to give players beautiful graphics in image quality mode and game performance in performance mode. Mark Cerny introduced its three main features: ”Bigger GPU, better light tracing, and AI-driven image upgrades show the true gameplay of PS5 Pro in various home games, especially in long-range parts, you can get 60FPS without getting too blurry.
The PS5 Pro has 67% more GPU computing units than current consoles and 28% faster memory speed, 45% increased image rendering speed and two to three times faster ray tracing projection speed. The PS5 Pro also has the “PS5 Pro Game Boost” function, which can be used on more than 8,500 PS4 games that can be played on PS5 Pro. This function can steadily improve performance and even improve the resolution of PS4 games.
Design and Release Details
The PS5 Pro’s design is rumored to be the same as before, with the PS5 Slim body changing from one horizontal side to three horizontal sides. Note that the PS5 Pro does not come with a CD drive and must be purchased separately.
The console is expected to be officially released on November 7 this year, priced at US$699.99 (pre-orders start on September 26), but it is currently uncertain whether Taiwan will start sales at the same time.
