Mumbai: Veteran off-spinner R Ashwin has been instrumental in the Rajasthan Royals’ rise to the top of the IPL rankings. Ashwin added a rare record to his name in the IPL match against Royal Challengers Bangalore yesterday.
Ashwin became only the second off-spinner to take 150 wickets in the IPL. Harbhajan Singh is the only off-spinner to have achieved this feat in the past. Ashwin became the eighth bowler to take more than 150 wickets in the IPL.
Ashwin took three wickets in the match against RCB. He needed just one wicket to break the record. RCB’s Rajat Patidar was sent off and Ashwin made his mark. Suyash Prabhu Desai and Shahbaz Ahmed were later dismissed for 152.
Rajasthan brought Ashwin to the team for Rs 5 crore this season. The player became a boon to the team with his lethal spin partnership with Yusvendra Chahal.
