Racist Outburst Sparks Lifetime Ban: PSG Fan’s Shocking ‘Let’s Go Chinese’ Slur at Lee Kang-in Leads to Permanent Expulsion
PSG Takes Swift Action Against Racist Fan, Expels Individual from Supporters Group
Towards Lee Kang-in (Paris Saint-Germain, PSG), a fan made a racist remark, ‘Allez mon Chinois’ (‘My Chinese’), which led to the individual being ‘permanently expelled’ from the club’s supporters group. As controversy over racial discrimination grew, PSG quickly stepped up to protect Lee Kang-in.
The PSG club stated through social networking services (SNS), “Our club does not tolerate any form of racial discrimination. The fan involved in the Lee Kang-in racial discrimination incident was permanently expelled from the supporters group and immediately after training. “I received an apology,” they announced.
According to local media reports, Lee Kang-in was training ahead of the 2024-2025 Ligue 1 9th round away trip to Marseille when a fan shouted, ‘Let’s go! I heard the cry ‘My Chinese’.
Calling non-Chinese Asians Chinese is considered racist.
Lee Kang-in is not the only Asian player to suffer from racial discrimination. Son Heung-min (Tottenham) has also faced similar incidents on several occasions. In June of this year, teammate Rodrigo Bentancourt’s racist remarks became controversial.
When Bentancourt was asked to ‘get Son Heung-min’s uniform’ on his country’s Uruguayan broadcast program, he said, “If I brought you Son Heung-min’s cousin’s uniform, you wouldn’t know. Both Son Heung-min and his cousin look the same.”
Following strong criticism from fans, Bentancourt apologized to Son Heung-min, stating that his comment was a “bad joke” and that he never meant to disrespect or hurt him.
Hee-chan Hwang (Wolverhampton) also received a racist comment from Marco Curto, a player on the opposing team, during a pre-season practice game against Como 1907 (Italy) in July. Curto was suspended for 10 matches by FIFA.
