Reliance on public transport is increasing in Oman; 8.5 lakh people traveled earlier this year

Muscat: Huge increase in the number of people using the national transport system in Oman. During the first quarter of this year, 8.5 lakh people used the national transport system for travel. During the same period last year, 6.35 lakh people traveled using the public transport system. 9,000 people traveled by public transport every day during the first quarter of this year.

Oman’s public transport system, the ferry service, was used by 60,000 people in the first quarter of this year. During the same period last year, 50,000 people used the ferry service as a public transport system. 87.2 per cent of those who used the ferry service are natives. Last year, 2,21,000 people used the ferry service.

Meanwhile, 37 per cent of those who have used the bus service so far this year are natives. Muwasalat, Oman’s national transport company, pointed out that the increase in the number of passengers on bus and ferry services shows people’s interest in the public transport system. Muwasalat said the significant increase in the number of passengers was a result of the Oman Public Transport Service’s marketing strategy and efficiency improvement activities.
