Renowned Bosnian Artist Alma Suljević Passes Away

Alma Suljević, a celebrated contemporary artist from Bosnia and Herzegovina and professor at the Sarajevo Academy of Fine Arts, has passed away in Sarajevo.

Suljević graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Sarajevo, Department of Sculpture, and completed postgraduate studies in contemporary philosophy at the Faculty of Philosophy in Sarajevo.

Notable Exhibitions and Achievements

Throughout her career, Suljević showcased her work in various exhibitions, including:

  • Homage to Vanji Radauš, a humanitarian food installation at the UNHCR, Paleta gallery (1993)
  • Centauromachy, a kinetic sculpture in the tram station, Sarajevo (1994)
  • Passage Europe, Saint Warriors (2004)

Suljević received numerous awards and recognition for her artistic work and commitment, including:

  • First prize in the Colegium Artisticum exhibition, Sculpture area (1992)
  • First prize in the Colegium Artisticum exhibition, Contemporary media area (2001)
  • Grand Prix at the Collegium Artisticum exhibition (2003)
  • Nomination for a joint Nobel Peace Prize for her artistic work on raising public awareness of the danger of mines in Bosnia and Herzegovina (Geneva, Switzerland, 2005)
