Review: BenQ Zowie Esports U2 Wireless Gaming Mouse – A Claw Grip User’s Perspective

BenQ Zowie Esports U2 Wireless Gaming Mouse

BenQ ZOWIE e-Sports gaming mouse.

Zowie is said to have conducted research to develop the optimal gaming mouse for various hand sizes and grip styles. Since the launch of the EC series, we have been developing products that adapt to players’ tastes to enable them to achieve the best performance with sports equipment. This is to provide the products with the perfect grip and comfort for users through player feedback and data analysis.

So February 2024.

We launched a new series of symmetrical gaming mice, U2. The U2 improved agility by adopting curved sides and an ergonomic design, and improved reliability through improved receiver performance. Furthermore, we have created an easy-to-use environment through plug-and-play functions. Let’s take a look at the BenQ Zowie Gaming Mouse U2 and see what features make it a product optimized for eSports.

First, the BenQ Zowie eSports U2 Wireless Gaming Mouse consists of a mouse, a built-in receiver with improved charging dock, a USB receiver, a USB adapter, a Scatez, two types of USB cables, a user guide and a paper guarantee.

The BenQ Zowie U2 Wireless Gaming Mouse is said to be a symmetrical mouse designed for claw-grip users who require intensive multi-directional and fast movement control. This is a different design approach from existing products that focus on stable horizontal motion control in games. The curved design on both sides and top allows for flexible movement at various angles.

This design is said to provide a more comfortable and stable grip for your thumb and ring finger when holding or lifting the mouse. In particular, the curved design on the left side combines with the overall curve of the back to reduce the thumb angle. This not only supports faster clicking with the index finger, but also stabilizes the electromyography frequency of the thumb.

The curved design on the right helps you position your ring finger comfortably. This ergonomic design allows for balanced force from both sides of the hand, providing greater stability for mouse movements.

The BenQ Zowie U2 wireless gaming mouse comes with two types of receivers. The simplest USB receiver can be installed near the mouse using the included USB cable and adapter.

By placing the receiver on the desktop in this way, you can stably transmit mouse signals to the desktop without interference from external signals. As the distance increases, confusion with other signals may occur and mouse control may not be smooth, so it is recommended to set it as close as possible.

The BenQ Zowie U2 wireless gaming mouse includes an improved receiver as standard to improve stability. The improved receiver helps ensure stable and optimal performance when gaming anywhere. Combined with an improved antenna on the front of the mouse, it reduces unexpected interference and prevents performance issues.

The improved receiver expands the reception range towards the mouse, improving the stability of wireless signals and minimizing frame drops and stuttering due to interference during games. Best of all, it also has a charging dock function, so you can conveniently charge the mouse battery. Once you have finished using it, simply place it back connected to the charging base and the charged battery can last around 70 hours.

The BenQ Zowie U2 wireless gaming mouse requires no additional software or driver installation. This minimizes compatibility issues that may arise during gaming or usage environments and allows you to control functions via buttons located on the bottom of the mouse. When you lift the mouse, the button on the left is the polling rate control button, which can be changed from 125Hz to 500Hz to 1,000Hz. And on the right there is a DPI adjustment button that can be changed from 400 dpi at 800, 1000, 1200, 1600 and 3200 dpi. In the case of DPI, it is displayed in color, so you can check the currently set DPI.

And below there is a switch to change the mode. The left side is divided into when using the USB receiver, while the right side is divided into when using the improved charging dock receiver. You can also adjust the LOD (distance recognized by the mouse sensor from the ground) by combining the left and right click buttons with the left thumb button, and the click response speed can be adjusted with the thumb button. However, when adjusting the LOD and click response speed, you need to connect a USB cable to each button combination.

I played with the BenQ Zowie U2 Wireless Gaming Mouse while connected to the USB Receiver and Advanced Charging Dock Receiver, respectively. In the case of Pal World, which is fully played these days, you don’t need to spend as much time with the mouse compared to FPS games, but when capturing or gathering different controls are necessary. In particular, when holding a friend, the screen often changes as quickly as in an FPS game, but I was able to play in a sufficiently stable situation even when connected to the USB receiver. I think this is because the USB receiver is placed on the desk near the mouse, so there is less chance of interference from external signals.

For reference, the Zowie U2 mouse features the PAW3395 sensor. The PAW3395 sensor is a proven sensor for gaming and is always included in mouse products for the best gaming performance with fast and precise control.

Even when connected to the improved receiver, the stable signal transmission allows for smooth gaming. Since the reception range expands in the direction of the mouse, it appears to be able to provide more stable signal security than when using a USB receiver. In particular, I think the difference will be more noticeable if the distance between the receiver and the mouse increases. Most importantly, the improved receiver also has a dock function that can charge the BenQ Zowie U2 wireless gaming mouse, so using this receiver will provide a much more convenient user experience.

Of course I also played Overwatch 2, one of the FPS games. In the case of FPS games, mouse sensitivity settings can vary depending on the user, but it was nice to be able to quickly and conveniently adjust DPI and polling rate using the buttons on the bottom of the mouse. In my case I prefer a slightly heavy feel, so I lower the value and use the mouse as if it were hitting the air, it was nice to be able to change it at any time without using a separate program.

Here’s how we saw the BenQ Zowie U2 wireless gaming mouse. As explained at the beginning, the Zowie U2 is a symmetrical mouse particularly suited to claw grip users. I also use different grips, but I mostly use the claw grip when playing games or looking for something quickly. Using the claw grip can be convenient because it simplifies the use of the mouse wheel and allows free hand movement, but it also causes severe wrist strain from using it a lot. Therefore, when I use a mouse whose design is not suitable for a crayfish grip, I often loosen my fingers and wrist.

I’ve been using the BenQ Zowie U2 wireless gaming mouse for about a week. I mostly played games like Pal World and Overwatch 2 with the claw grip and didn’t feel like it put too much strain on my wrists. It wouldn’t make sense to say there was absolutely no pain, but it would be fair to say that it was more comfortable to use than when using a mouse designed with a high midsection. The existing product has a design more suited to palm grip, so when used with the claw grip, the height was increased and the wrist bend angle increased, causing significant fatigue. After using the Zowie U2, I could feel that my wrist was less fatigued than before.

In the case of the mouse, you can think of it as a tool that simply moves the cursor, clicks and does something. However, if you use different products, you will realize how important the design and weight of the mouse are. That’s why lightweight products are popular these days. The BenQ Zowie U2 wireless gaming mouse may not be the lightest, but it is quite light at 60g. The length is quite long at 124mm, but the overall height is low, so the mouse doesn’t feel large. Perhaps because it is a design consolidated through various tests, the fact that there is no discomfort when using it with a claw grip seems to increase your satisfaction.

Anyway, I think the advantage of the BenQ Zowie U2 wireless gaming mouse is that it minimizes the inconvenience caused by unplugging via a receiver that has its own charging dock function. Charging docks are normally sold separately and while the price of the Zowie U2 itself isn’t cheap, the fact that it comes with various components seems to provide reasonable satisfaction. It features the latest PAW3395 sensor, which allows for smooth but precise tracking, so I think it’s a product that not only has a good design but also works as a gaming mouse.
