Samsung SDI Unveils ⁤Next-Generation Batteries at IAA Transportation⁤ 2024

Samsung SDI ‍announced‌ its ‍participation in ‌the ‘IAA Transportation 2024’ held in Hanover, Germany from⁤ the‍ 17th to the 22nd (local time). ‘IAA’ is one of the world’s ‌largest motor shows, and ‘IAA ‌Transportation’, ⁤which deals with commercial vehicles and logistics solutions, is‌ held in Hanover, Germany, and ‘IAA Mobility’,‍ which focuses on passenger cars, is held alternately every year in‍ Munich.

Samsung SDI unveiled its next-generation battery ‍lineup, including lithium iron phosphate (LFP)+ batteries optimized for electric commercial vehicles, ⁣all-solid-state batteries, and 46-pi cylindrical batteries,‍ under the theme of ‘A Sustainable Future Realized with PRiMX.’

LFP+ Batteries with⁤ Improved Energy Density

Samsung SDI said about the ‍LFP+ battery, “By applying new plate technology, we have improved‍ the⁢ energy density ‍by more than 10% compared to LFP batteries.”⁢ Above all, Samsung ‍SDI explained that its batteries ⁤are suitable for commercial vehicles that require long-distance driving, as they have secured long-life performance that allows round trips between ⁢Hanover and Frankfurt more than 1,400 times and have rapid⁢ charging technology that allows 80% charging in 20 minutes. ⁢Safety has also been⁣ further enhanced by applying its own heat spread blocking ⁢technology that prevents heat from spreading to adjacent cells.

Electric Commercial Vehicle Market Growth

The⁣ electric commercial vehicle market is evaluated as a market with even greater potential growth due to strengthening environmental regulations on internal combustion engine commercial vehicles, especially in Europe and⁢ North‌ America. According to market research firm SNE Research, the electric commercial vehicle⁤ market, including electric trucks and electric buses, is expected to grow ‌from approximately 47 GWh this year to‌ 177 GWh by 2030, growing at an average annual rate ⁢of 25%.

All-Solid-State Batteries and 46-Pie Cylindrical Batteries

Samsung SDI also unveiled its next-generation batteries, the ⁢all-solid-state battery and the 46-pie battery, at this exhibition. Samsung SDI’s⁣ all-solid-state battery can achieve the industry’s highest energy ‍density with its own non-cathode technology. Samsung SDI has been supplying⁤ samples to customers since the end of last year and is proceeding as planned with commercialization in 2027. The 46-pie cylindrical battery is ⁢scheduled for mass production in early 2025, about⁣ a year earlier than planned, due to securing⁤ new customers for M-Mobility (micro-mobility).

Sustainable⁤ Future Zone

At the ‘Sustainable Future Zone’ in Samsung⁣ SDI’s exhibition booth, ‌visitors‌ can see Samsung‌ SDI’s resource circulation system ⁣from battery production to disposal, as well as its environmental,⁢ social, and governance (ESG) ‍management performance and ⁢strategies that are being expanded to its partners and supply chain.

CEO Choi Yoon-ho’s Statement

Samsung SDI CEO Choi Yoon-ho said, “We have continuously strived to lead‍ the electric vehicle⁤ market based on differentiated technologies,” and “We will work closely with major global customers to supply batteries with the‍ best ‍quality‍ and safety.”
