It started. A new type of Abu Dhabi Autonomous Racing League (A2RL) speed racing takes place at Abu Dhabi’s Yas Marina Circuit. The competing cars will be completely driverless and will use artificial intelligence to control them.

The tournament saw the participation of 8 teams from countries such as USA, Germany, Switzerland, China, United Arab Emirates, Hungary, Singapore and Italy. To compete for the $2.25 million prize pool, all teams will use the same 2023 Dallara Super Formula car, a standard F-1 car that can reach speeds of up to 300 km/h.
The vehicle will be equipped with 7 Sony cameras, 4 ZF radar sensors and 3 Seyond Lidar sensors. The driverless system will use Nvidia GPUs to facilitate processing. Each team had to demonstrate their AI programming and training skills, including understanding road grip. Know the temperature of your tires and predict the racing and overtaking of your opponents.
A2RL will allow 4 teams to compete simultaneously, running 8 rounds in total, timed to find the best team. Being the first race, there were many obstacles.
