Rising Trend of Violent Crimes Triggered by Noise in Apartments – Exclusive Report

[앵커]

Violent crimes triggered by inter-floor noise are becoming more serious every day.

Last night (25), a man in his 60s was arrested by police in southern Chungcheong province for firing a gas gun at a neighbor because he was noisy.

No one was seriously injured because the gas gun missed its target, but it could have caused significant damage.

This is an exclusive report by journalist Kwak Dong-hwa.

The roof of a two-story apartment building where about 10 families live.

Last night, around 10pm, a man in his sixties who lived on the second floor suddenly fired a gas pistol at a neighbor in his fifties who was on the roof.

The reason was that it was loud, like a bang from the roof.

Mr. A, who fired the gas pistol, followed his fleeing neighbor to the first floor.

The man argued with her husband, who came out after hearing his wife’s cries for help, and fired the gas pistol again.

The midnight gas shooting incident ended when police responded to the complaint and arrested the man as a criminal.

Fortunately no one was injured as the gas gun fired by the man missed its target.

It turned out that the man had purchased the gas gun last year for self-defense and had received official permission from the police to possess it.

[목격자/음성변조 : “텔레비전에서 많이 보는 권총 같은 거던데요. 가스 냄새만 조금 맡았어요.”]

Police have requested an arrest warrant on charges of aggravated assault.

Violent crimes such as murder and violence triggered by inter-floor noise are rapidly increasing, having increased tenfold in the last five years.
