President of the Republic of South Africa Cyril Ramaphosa, unlike his aide Vincent Magven, during his visit to Kiev heard the explosions caused by the Russian missile attack on the Ukrainian capital, Ukrinform reports. Russian missile strikes don’t work very well for peace, Ramaphosa said.

“During our visit, we heard rocket attacks. Such activities do not work very well for peace, so we are talking about the need for de-escalation on both sides so that peace can come and the problem is resolved,” Ramaphosa said during a press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

At the same time, an assistant to the President of South Africa, Vincent Magvenya, said the day before that the missile attack on Kyiv was not real, and the delegation “did not hear” the explosions. At the same time, it turned out to be strange for him that in the second year of a large-scale war, Ukrainians continue to go about their business immediately after the end of the alarm.

“We were all puzzled when we were taken back to the hotel and we drove through the streets where people had a normal day. This is very strange and, in a sense, deliberate misinformation,” said Vincent Magvenya.

On June 16, the air defense forces destroyed 12 missiles and two drones in Ukrainian airspace. Moreover, half of the missiles were ballistic.

The rocket attack on Kyiv took place against the backdrop of a visit to Ukraine by a delegation of presidents and heads of government of African countries, who are also due to visit Russia and meet with Kremlin head Vladimir Putin.
