New York – More than 300 people were arrested in New York as part of a student protest against the war against Gaza. The action of the New York City Police was in the rallies held on the campuses of Columbia University and City College. Police also evacuated Columbia’s Hamilton Hall, which was occupied by protesters. The university authorities contacted the police to evict the protesters. According to reports, 109 people were arrested in Columbia and 173 in City College. It is not clear how many of them are students.
Groups of protesters clashed at the University of California, Los Angeles. The mayor of New York has accused the city of not allowing hate speech and some are abusing children to make things worse. The Mayor criticized that legal protests will not be allowed to turn violent and that such protests will not serve their purpose.
Students protesting the occupation of Gaza occupied Columbia University’s Hamilton Hall after midnight on Tuesday. The students’ movement came at a time when the university was continuing the process of suspending the students who took part in the protest. Foreign media reported that students renamed the building ‘Hinds Hall’ and displayed a white flag in memory of Hind Rajab, a six-year-old girl who died in northern Gaza in February.
