RRR, KGF came after all-India propaganda, we got scared: Laljos

Recently, foreign language films have seen a trend of empty theaters and Malayalam films have failed in droves. Dhyan Srinivasan had recently said that for the first time in history, Vishu has gone by without releasing Malayalam films. Dhyan added that the films were not released then because they were afraid of the big release like KGF and Beast.

But director Laljos says he did not feel that foreign language films were a threat to Malayalam cinema. Amrita T for DoolNews. Laljos response was in an interview conducted by Suresh.

‘Foreign language films have never felt threatened. Malayalam cinema has gone through several phases. The Telugu film Shankarabharanam ran for 300 days in Kerala. So Shankar’s rule has not posed any threat to Malayalam cinema.

It is true that I was scared when big budget films like KGF and RRR came. Such films come every now and then. After that came films with bigger budgets. Nobody was afraid, then came our films. And he ran.

RRR and KGF marketing was so strong. The actors of that film came here and did road shows, interacted with people and gave interviews to channels.

Their film is coming out after propagandizing all over India. That is why we are afraid. That way, if a big movie comes without propaganda, none of us will be afraid. Only when people felt they had ventured out for some reason, they got scared and put off our photos. It’s not something that happens all the time. So I don’t think there is any threat to Malayalam cinema,’ said Laljos.

Meanwhile, Solomon’s Bees directed by Laljos releases on August 18. Joju George, Vincy Aloysius, Darshana, Addis and Shambhu played the lead roles in the film.
