Sony Rumored to Release New Xperia Pro Series

There have been recent speculations surrounding Sony, suggesting that the company is planning to launch a new, high-end “Xperia Pro” series this year, surpassing the Xperia 1 in terms of features and capabilities. Adding fuel to the fire, a mysterious new model has surfaced on a certification website, further fueling the anticipation for a third Sony Xperia phone release in 2021.
According to a report by “sumahodigest,” Sony submitted a certification document in China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology for a phone with the codename “XQ-DE72” on July 21. This marks the third smartphone from Sony to make its debut this year, following the Xperia 1 V and Xperia 10 V. Unfortunately, the document does not reveal any specific specifications about the new model. However, speculation points towards this phone being the successor to the Xperia Pro-I, which was launched last year.
Notably, Sony has adopted a pattern in recent years where the first two letters following “XQ” indicate the year of release. For instance, models released in 2023 are denoted by the letter “D.” In the case of the Taiwanese models of Xperia 1 V and Xperia 10 V, their model numbers are XQ-DQ72 and XQ-DC72 respectively, with the second letter signifying a different series. Considering that the listed model for the Xperia Pro-I is “XQ-BE72,” it is highly likely that this new model, “XQ-DE72,” belongs to the same series.
However, “sumahodigest” emphasizes that relying solely on the model number for conclusions is not foolproof, as Sony has altered the English letters representing the series in the past. Therefore, it is plausible that the “XQ-DE72” could be associated with an entirely different series, such as the Xperia 5 V.
As for the specifics of the upcoming Xperia Pro series, information remains scarce. However, renowned leaker Zackbucks suggests that Sony may introduce an “Xperia Pro-M,” with the letter “M” standing for “Monitor.” Meanwhile, “sumahodigest” speculates that the next-generation Xperia Pro will incorporate the latest Exmor T photosensitive elements in its three main lenses and feature a 1-inch wide-angle lens to significantly enhance light intake.
