Russell Brand pleads not guilty to rape, sexual assault charge
Russell Brand Denies Sexual Assault Charges in London Court
British comedian Russell Brand, 49, has denied sexually assaulting four women between 1999 and 2005. He appeared in Southwark Crown Court in London on Friday, entering a “not guilty” plea to two counts of rape, two counts of sexual assault, and one count of indecent assault.
The charges against the “Get Him to the Greek” actor stem from alleged incidents involving four different women. Prosecutors claim the Russell Brand allegations include a 1999 rape in Bournemouth, an indecent assault in 2001, oral rape and sexual assault in 2004, and a sexual assault between 2004 and 2005 in Westminster.
Brand previously addressed the allegations via social media, stating,”I was a fool before I lived in the light of the Lord… But what I never was was a rapist. I’ve never engaged in nonconsensual activities.”
Prior to these charges, Brand faced similar accusations in September 2023, following a joint investigation by the Times of london and Channel 4’s “Dispatches.” Several women alleged sexual assault by Brand between 2006 and 2013. He refuted these ”very, very serious criminal allegations,” claiming he was targeted for his views.
in November 2023, Brand was also sued for sexual assault in New York by a woman who worked as an extra in his 2011 film “Arthur.” That same month, the BBC reported receiving complaints about Brand’s workplace conduct during his radio programs from 2006 to 2008.
Brand has recently focused on religion, undergoing baptism in the River Thames in 2024,which he described as “an opportunity to leave the past behind.” He was seen holding a book of Puritan prayers upon arriving at court.
His trial is scheduled to begin on June 3,2026,and is expected to last four to five weeks. The russell Brand sexual assault case continues to draw international attention.
