“Russia seeks to secure armed drones in Iran to prolong war in Ukraine”

The U.S. White House has announced that Russia has begun to secure armed drones from Iran as the war in Ukraine escalates.

White House National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan said in a statement on Monday that the Russian city had visited Iran at least twice in recent weeks to secure missile-loaded drones for use in the Ukraine war. .

According to a statement, Iran introduced the Shahed-191 and Shahed-129 drones, known as UAVs, to the Russian government delegation on the 8th and 15th of this month at the Kashan airfield south of the capital Tehran.

These Iranian-made drones, of interest to Russia, could be equipped with missiles with guidance capabilities to deliver precise strikes to ground targets.

“We have received information that the Iranian government is preparing to deliver hundreds of UAVs to Russia, including one that can be loaded with weapons,” Sullivan said.

“The photos of Iranian UAVs that the Russian delegation observed during their visit in June show that Russia continues to be interested in acquiring Iranian-made attack UAVs,” he said.

The White House had previously said that Iran could begin training to allow Russian troops to use drones as early as this month.

One US official commented that the strengthening of Iran-Russian cooperation is an example of why the US needs to maintain its presence and influence in the Middle East.

However, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdullahyan denied reports about Iranian drone exports to Russia during a phone call with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitro Kuleva.
