Russian strikes on Friday, April 3, 2026, killed at least eight people across Ukraine, including a massive missile and drone attack near the capital, occurring as Kyiv maintained the possibility of an Easter truce.
According to reporting from AP News, the strikes targeted residential areas in the Kyiv region. In the neighborhood of Kriukivshchyna, residents were documented removing broken glass from their windows and walking past houses that had been damaged by the attacks.
Further damage was reported in Vyshneve, located in the Kyiv region, where a car was destroyed during the strikes.
Attack Scale and Tactics
The Washington Post reported that Russia launched almost 500 drones and missiles during the operation. Ukrainian officials have stated that the Kremlin is shifting its tactics to increase civilian suffering by moving toward daytime barrages.
Local authorities reported that the Russian military is also preparing to target more key infrastructure as part of this tactical shift.
Easter Truce and Political Response
The strikes took place while Kyiv held the door open for a potential Easter truce. However, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has accused Russia of an Easter escalation
in response to the attacks, according to Reuters.
The Guardian reported that Russia responded to Zelenskyy’s offer of an Easter truce with the drone attacks.
Broader Aerial Trends
The April 3 strikes follow a period of intensified aerial activity. Euronews reported that air force data showed Russia fired a record number of drones at Ukraine during the month of March.
France 24 also reported that Russia has been conducting massive rolling aerial attacks across the country.
