Sanju Samson, Prithvi Shah and Ishan Kishan were not included in the T20 World Cup squad despite their brilliant performances recently. With Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant and Dinesh Karthik out of class receiving criticism for playing in the tournament, fans point out that young players have been spared the survival of others including Rohit.

Currently, young players only get a chance as substitutes in series where these players are not playing. Specialist T20 players who have proven to be match winners have been excluded from the World Cup.

Shaw has a strike rate of 147 in IPL. But these three were not in India’s World T20 squad. Things would have been different if these players had got more opportunities in T20 internationals. Even after the World Cup, players like Pant, who have not proved their mettle despite playing in the team for a long time, have been given a place in the team.
The young players proved their mettle in the pre-World Cup series, in the West Indies at home and against South Africa. However, when the World Cup team was announced, they were nowhere to be seen. India’s two openers, captain Rohit and KL Rahul, missed the World Cup. India also suffered a setback in the semi-finals due to lack of runs in the powerplay. Had it not been for Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya who returned to form in time, India would have been eliminated without even seeing the semi-finals.
