Coach Shin Tae-yong (54), who led Indonesia to the quarter-finals of the U23 Asian Cup (Under 23) for the first time in his country’s history, will be with Indonesia until 2027.

On the 25th, Indonesian Football Association President Eric Tohir posted a photo of himself shaking hands with Coach Shin at a Korean restaurant on social media and wrote, “We discussed the national team’s program until 2027 and decided to work with each other.” Although the Indonesian Football Association did not make an official announcement, the president himself announced that he had agreed to renew the contract with coach Shin.

CNN Indonesia said, “Chairman Thohir confirmed the extension of the contract with coach Shin,” and added, “There were many questions about whether coach Shin would renew the contract after advancing to the round of 16 (final round ) U23 Asian Cup.” The media evaluated that the extension of the contract was done at an appropriate time to boost the morale of the players as Indonesia is about to play in the quarter-finals against Korea.

Coach Shin led Indonesia, who were considered weak, to advance to the quarter-finals of this year’s U23 Asian Cup. They passed the group stage with 2 wins and 1 loss, including defeating Australia, who were considered favorites to win. Indonesia, led by coach Shin, will play the quarter-finals against Korea, led by coach Hwang Seon-hong, at 2:30am on the 26th. If you place in the top three in this competition, you will progress straight to the finals of the Paris Olympics this summer, and if you place fourth, you will have to win a match second chance against Guinea in Africa to go to Paris.
