Shooting in the Caucasus, the streets echo with bursts and explosions

In the Russian republic in the North Caucasus, Ingushetia, there was a fierce shooting this evening. Several streets in the city of Karabulak, considering the footage that is spreading on social networks, look like the front line.

There is very little information from independent sources for now. For now, only information is coming from media sympathetic to the Russian regime, and they should be taken with a grain of salt.

Gazeta: Counter-terrorist operation

The counter-terrorist operation (KTO) regime was introduced in the city of Karabulak in Ingushetia (Russia). According to information from the Russian National Anti-Terrorist Committee (NAK), FSB special forces blocked a group in a building, which, according to Russian official sources, was planning terrorist actions. During the arrest attempt, they opened fire on the law enforcement, writes the Russian Gazeta, a media favorable to Vladimir Putin’s regime. As reported by the Russian Telegram channel Mash Gor, two fighters have already been eliminated, but the operation continues – there could be up to six of them in total.

After 23:00 local time, shots and several explosions were heard again. Residents of nearby houses were evacuated, and no one was injured, writes Gazeta.

Limited area of counter-terrorist action

An anti-terrorist operation is being carried out in the city of Karabulak in Ingushetia, the regional operational headquarters announced. The KTO regime was introduced on several streets, especially on Oskanova Street near residential buildings.

“It was decided that from 7:30 p.m. on March 2, 2024, an anti-terrorist operation will be carried out on the territory of the city of Karabulak, Republic of Ingushetia. The area is limited: Radnička Street, Oskanova Street, Naberežna Street, Dzabagijeva Street,” the statement from the headquarters states.

Locals are urged to keep the peace and not allow chaos, as well as not to interfere in the activities of law enforcement.

“The situation is under control,” claim the headquarters in charge of the police operation.

According to the information of the TASS agency, calling on the operational services, the law enforcement forces targeted an apartment in one of the buildings on Oskanova Street, which is located on the third floor.

Two with an international warrant?

In the videos published on RT, gunshots can be heard, and a fire was also noticed on one of the balconies of the building, in which about five or six fighters are allegedly hiding. “Izvestia” writes that two of them are on an international warrant.

Telegram channel Mash Gor reported that two fighters have already been liquidated. At the same time, a source of RIA Novosti in the order forces stated that the operation is ongoing, “activities are being carried out to neutralize the fighters”.

After 11 p.m. local time, “Izvestija” reports about another shooting, three explosions were also heard. The persons named by the Russian media as criminals are armed with a large number of automatic weapons and explosive devices.

“Vesti” published five sentences

The online edition of the Russian state channel Rusia 1, Vesti.ru, has so far published an article of literally five sentences about the chaos in Ingushetia.

“In the Ingushetia city of Karabulak, there is a shootout with fighters who planned a terrorist attack, the National Anti-Terrorist Committee reports. As explained in the ministry, FSB special forces discovered a group of criminals in one of the residential buildings. The fighters refused to surrender and opened fire on the officers of the police authorities.

Residents of nearby houses have been evacuated, the situation is under control.

“Earlier it became known that four streets in Karabulak were under the regime of a counter-terrorist operation (KTO),” reads a scathing news report on a primetime Russian channel. It’s not even the main news for them.

Possible connection to the 2023 incident.

The source of “Izvestija” stated that this group could be connected to a criminal group from the village of Zjuzikov-Jur, which the law enforcement tried to arrest in the spring of 2023. During the arrest attempt, they barricaded themselves in one of the buildings and opened fire. As a result, three law enforcement officers were killed, eight others were injured, and several attackers managed to escape. The Police Directorate for Ingushetia then published warrants for three people, and a little later one of them was found dead.
