Alf Clausen,the prolific composer behind the music of The simpsons for 27 years,has died at 84. He composed scores for more than 560 episodes of the animated series. Clausen passed away after a decade-long battle wiht Progressive Supernuclear Palsy (PSP).
during his tenure,Clausen crafted a unique musical piece each week,performed by a 35-piece orchestra. his work earned him two Emmy Awards and 30 nominations. Beyond the Simpsons, Clausen contributed his talents to the television series ALF and films such as The Naked Gun and Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.
In 2017, Clausen was let go from The Simpsons in what he alleged was a cost-cutting measure. He afterward sued Fox for ageism and disability discrimination, but later dropped the suit. The show recognized his contribution by naming him ”composer emeritus” in later seasons. The Simpsons composer leaves behind a rich legacy of musical contributions.
clausen reflected on his time with the show in a 2017 interview, saying, “I think that’s one of the reasons they’ve kept me all these years: they were looking for somebody who could score all those different types of music in small clip-form. That’s what’s been fun for me. I think that anyone else who would have been hired for this job and stayed for this long would have gone to the nuthouse.”
