Six teams; Twenty20 cricket for the Los Angeles Olympics? ICC with big movement

Twenty20 cricket may be a competitive event at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. ICC is following efforts for this. The ICC has introduced the need to include Twenty20 cricket in the Los Angeles Olympics by making six teams a competitive event.

The possibility of cricket being included in the Los Angeles Olympics is slim. In March this year, the Los Angeles Olympics will decide the potential competition events. A final decision in this regard will be made at the International Olympic Committee meeting held in October.

If the ICC’s proposal is accepted, women’s and men’s teams in the top six in the Twenty20 ranking will come to play in the Olympic Games. But the ICC has not clarified the structure of the tournament. As part of cost cutting, the ICC considered the participation of only six teams. Reducing the number of athletes participating is also part of the Olympic Games Agenda 2020+5.

The International Olympic Committee is presenting a proposal to organize women’s and men’s competitions in one location at the Los Angeles Olympic Games. When women’s Twenty20 cricket was a competitive event at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, the only matches were played at Edgbaston. Baseball, flag football, lacrosse, breakdancing, karate, kickboxing, squash and motorsports compete with cricket for the Los Angeles Olympics.
