Smashing Records: Black Myth: Wukong Rakes in $961 Million, Redefining China’s 3A Gaming Landscape
Black Myth: Wukong Breaks Records with $961 Million in Sales
China Global Television Network reported that the Chinese game “Black Myth: Wukong” broke several records just one month after its release.
According to statistics from data analysis company VideoGame Insights, the game has sold over 20 million copies on Steam, with revenue exceeding US$961 million, setting a new benchmark for domestic 3A game sales.
Black Myth: Wukong is not only available on Steam, but also on WeGame, PlayStation, Epic and other platforms. Industry analysts predict that with its strong start, annual sales are expected to reach 30 to 40 million copies.

As the first AAA game independently developed in China, Black Myth: Wukong quickly topped the Steam “Most Popular Games” list since its release. Since its release on August 20, the game has sold more than 10 million copies on major platforms in just three days.
The success of Black Myth: Wukong is inseparable from its six years of meticulous development and a huge investment of at least 400 million RMB (about 56 million USD). As China’s first AAA-level action role-playing game (ARPG), it not only represents China’s rise in the global gaming market, but also demonstrates the international influence of Chinese culture through the emerging medium of gaming.
