Sony Music Publishing has appointed Roslyn Pineda as its new President for Asia, effective . The move signals a strategic shift for the publishing giant as it looks to strengthen its presence and expand support for songwriters across the region.
Pineda succeeds Carol Ng, who has led Sony Music Publishing Asia for a significant period and will remain with the company until her planned retirement at the end of March. Ng’s tenure saw considerable growth for the publisher in Asia, establishing it as a leading force in the region. According to Guy Henderson, Sony Music Publishing President, International, Ng “expanded our business into new territories and established us as the leading publisher across the region.”
Pineda’s responsibilities will encompass overseeing both the creative and business operations across multiple territories within Asia. A key focus will be on nurturing relationships with clients and industry partners, and crucially, expanding global support for songwriters signed to Sony Music Publishing in the region. She will be based in Hong Kong and will report directly to Henderson.
The appointment isn’t a leap into music publishing for Pineda; she joins from within the Sony ecosystem, having most recently served as General Manager, Philippines for Sony Music. Prior to that, she held the position of Vice President, Artist Relations & Business Development, Asia. This internal promotion suggests a confidence in Pineda’s existing understanding of the Asian music market and her ability to navigate its complexities.
Pineda’s two-decade career at Sony Music has provided her with extensive experience working with a diverse range of artists, both Asian and Western. Her portfolio includes collaborations with prominent names like John Mayer, F4, Leehom Wang, Jessi, Sekai No Owari, Ricky Martin, Alicia Keys, and One Direction. This breadth of experience suggests a versatile skillset capable of handling the diverse musical landscape of Asia.
Her recent work at Sony Music Philippines demonstrates a proactive approach to market development. Pineda oversaw the reopening of the Philippines office in late 2018, a move that revitalized Sony’s presence in the country. She was instrumental in signing key Filipino artists such as Ben&Ben, SB19, and IV OF SPADES, demonstrating a commitment to fostering local talent. She led the acquisition of the ABS-CBN music catalogue in 2024, a significant strategic move that expanded Sony Music Philippines’ catalogue and market reach.
Recognition of her success came in 2025 when she was honored as Billboard Philippines’ first-ever Music Industry Executive of the Year. This award underscores her impact on the Filipino music industry and her ability to drive growth and innovation.
Pineda’s background isn’t solely rooted in music. Before joining Sony, she began her career in marketing at Unilever, providing her with a foundation in brand building and consumer engagement. This early experience likely informs her approach to artist development and market strategy.
In a statement, Pineda expressed her enthusiasm for the new role, stating, “I am thrilled to take on this leadership role at Sony Music Publishing Asia during such an exciting time for our industry and our region.” She emphasized her commitment to collaboration and empowering songwriters, stating, “Together, we will foster a vibrant, energetic environment that prioritises creativity and innovation, ensuring that the voices of our creators are heard and celebrated.”
Henderson echoed this sentiment, highlighting Pineda’s “success in the artist development and creative space” and her “experience of more than two decades in the music business.” He believes she will bring a “new focus to the region to further expand our business into the future.”
The appointment of Pineda comes at a pivotal moment for the music industry in Asia. The region is experiencing rapid growth in music consumption, driven by increasing smartphone penetration, the rise of streaming services, and a growing appreciation for local and international artists. Sony Music Publishing’s decision to appoint a seasoned executive with a deep understanding of the Asian market suggests a long-term commitment to capitalizing on these opportunities.
Pineda’s focus on strengthening relationships with clients and industry partners will be crucial in navigating the complex landscape of the Asian music market. Building strong partnerships with local labels, promoters, and digital platforms will be essential for maximizing the reach and impact of Sony Music Publishing’s songwriters.
The emphasis on expanding global support for songwriters is also noteworthy. As the Asian music market continues to grow, there is increasing demand for high-quality songwriting and production. By providing songwriters with the resources and support they need to succeed, Sony Music Publishing can play a key role in shaping the future of music in the region.
