Sony’s Secret Revealed: Are LinkBuds Open and LinkBuds Fit the Future of True Wireless Headphones
Sony to Revamp LinkBuds Series with New Naming Convention
Sony has been working to simplify its product line names for consumer headphones, making it easier for customers to remember and distinguish between models. The LinkBuds series, launched in 2022, is a prime example of this effort. Initially, the series included the fully open LinkBuds and the in-ear true wireless LinkBuds S, but the similar names caused confusion among consumers.
According to reports, Sony will replace the existing naming method with “Open” and “Fit” to provide clearer distinctions between the two products. The new open-back headphones, codenamed YY2964, will be called LinkBuds Open, succeeding the original LinkBuds. Meanwhile, the true wireless in-ear headphones, codenamed YY2975, will be called LinkBuds Fit, replacing the LinkBuds S.
Although initially rumored to be released at IFA, the launch of the LinkBuds Open and LinkBuds Fit has been postponed. The official release date remains uncertain, and it is unclear whether the two products will be released simultaneously or at separate times, following the pattern of the previous generation.
