MUMBAI: Virat Kohli, who made controversial remarks against the BCCI and President Sourav Ganguly after he was removed from the captaincy of the Indian ODI team, was responding to reports that the BCCI was preparing to send a show cause notice to him. Ganguly told ANI that such allegations were not true.
Kohli told a news conference before leaving for South Africa that he would be removed from the post of ODI captain only an hour and a half ago and that no one had asked him to step down as T20 captain. Kohli’s response came in response to Ganguly’s statement that he had personally asked the BCCI not to step down as captain of the T20 team.
Following this, India Today reported that Ganguly had sought a show cause notice against Kohli for his public statement against the BCCI. However, it was reported that BCCI secretary Jay Shah had advised Ganguly not to take any drastic action for the time being, pointing out that if the controversy flared up, it would demoralize the team playing a crucial series in South Africa. Ganguly responded in one word that it was untrue with this news.
During the tour of South Africa, Chetan Sharma, the chairman of the selection committee, defended Ganguly and rejected Kohli. After this, Virat Kohli resigned as the Test captain following the defeat in the Test series. In the run-up to the T20 World Cup, Kohli announced that he would step down as captain of the T20 team after the World Cup. However, the BCCI had told Kohli not to make such an announcement before the World Cup and to consider it after the World Cup, but Kohli was adamant in his earlier decision. This was followed by the removal of Kohli from the ODI captaincy and the appointment of Rohit Sharma as captain.
