On the 5th, South Korean and US military authorities conducted a combined surface-to-surface missile fire into the East Sea in response to North Korea’s intermediate-range ballistic missile (IRBM) provocation the day before.

The Joint Chiefs of Staff announced on the same day that the ROK and the USFK fired two ATACMS missiles into the East Sea to hit a virtual target exactly.

The military authorities of South Korea and the United States also fired one ballistic missile ‘Hyunmoo-2’ in a joint response firing held at around 1 am on the same day, but an accident occurred after an abnormal flight and fell into the base immediately after launch. A military official said, “There have been no injuries so far, and the exact cause is under investigation.”

The Joint Chiefs of Staff announced that an intermediate-range ballistic missile (IRBM) was fired east of the Mupyeong-ri area in Jagang Province, North Korea at approximately 7:23 am the previous day. The missile is said to have passed over Japan and landed in the Pacific Ocean.
