A Life Reframed: Stanisław Sojka’s Battle with Health and Resilience
Facing a Type 2 Diabetes Diagnosis
For years, Stanisław Sojka captivated audiences with his artistry. Though, behind the scenes, the beloved performer was navigating a significant health challenge.Several years ago, Sojka received a diagnosis of type 2 diabetes. Initially, managing the condition didn’t require insulin; instead, a combination of medication and careful glucose monitoring proved sufficient.
But Sojka didn’t stop there. In a 2023 interview with “Your Styl,” he shared his proactive approach, stating, “Great doctors looked at me in all directions and it turned out that I had type II diabetes. They said that for now I do not have to take insulin, only pills and monitoring. ‘But if you lose 30 kilos, you can improve.'” He embraced a lifestyle overhaul, losing 30 kilograms and reporting a marked betterment in his overall well-being. “I had diabetics in my family, so I know its a life that makes life arduous. I thought: ‘Oh, if something is in my hands, I will do it.’ And for now I succeed. I changed my nutritional customs, I dropped the 30 kilos, then came back, but I feel good and it drives me. You can repair!”
A Past Battled: Overcoming Smoking Addiction
Sojka’s commitment to health extended beyond diabetes management. In 2019, he publicly recounted a harrowing experience stemming from years of smoking. He faced a frightening moment where he struggled to breathe, prompting an emergency room visit. This near-crisis served as a turning point, leading him to quit smoking entirely.
Reflecting on the experience in an interview with Gazeta Wyborcza,Sojka powerfully described the realization: “I had such a moment a few months ago that I was almost gone. I couldn’t breathe. In an instant I realized that there is no more vital thing. There is no breath – no oxygen. There is no oxygen - no brain. There is no brain - there is no life.” He acknowledged the difficulty of breaking the habit but emphasized the clarity the experience provided, stating, “today, a cigarette…means those moments in an ambulance. I had to touch it to understand.”
