The State Bureau of Investigation completed a special pre-trial investigation and filed an indictment against a former Ukrainian law enforcement officer who, after the capture of Crimea by the Russians, changed his oath and joined the FSB. It is reported by the GBR.

During the investigation, law enforcement officers established that the traitor received the position of an investigator in the FSB department for Crimea and Sevastopol and was engaged in the persecution of Crimean Tatar activists. As part of the criminal proceedings initiated by him, the local occupation courts recognized the Crimean Tatar religious organizations as terrorist, and the leaders were thrown behind bars.

In 2018, a traitor was conducting a case against Ukrainian sailors who were captured by the Russians in the Kerch Strait area. At the trial, he petitioned for the detention in the pre-trial detention center of all detained Ukrainians, including the wounded.

The former Ukrainian law enforcement officer is charged with desertion and high treason, responsibility for which is provided for in Part 1 of Art. 111 and part 1 of Art. 408 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for up to 15 years.

Recall that in November 2018, three ships of the Ukrainian Navy – small armored boats “Berdyansk” and “Nikopol” and the tugboat “Yany Kapu” – went on a mission to navigate from the Ukrainian port of Odessa through the Kerch Strait. When entering the strait, they met with the border ships of the Russian Federation, which at first, for far-fetched reasons, did not let them through the strait, and then did not let them go back, and in the end took them on a ram and captured them along with the crew. Several Ukrainian sailors were injured, 24 Ukrainian servicemen were taken prisoner.

Six months later, the UN International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea issued a decision obliging Russia to release Ukrainian ships and captured Ukrainian sailors. However, Russia ignored this decision. The Ukrainians were released only on September 7, 2019 as part of an exchange between Ukraine and Russia in the 35 to 35 format. On November 18, 2019, in the Black Sea, the Russian Federation handed over to Ukraine the Berdyansk and Nikopol boats and the Yany Kapu tugboat.
