5th WBSC U-23 Men’s Baseball World Cup 2024 Kicks Off in Shaoxing, Zhejiang

The 5th WBSC U-23 Men’s Baseball World Cup 2024 commenced on September 6 in Shaoxing, Zhejiang, featuring 12 top baseball teams from around the world. This marks the first time the tournament is being held in mainland China, with the competition scheduled to run from September 6 to 15.

Prior to the tournament, Weifeng Baseball conducted an exclusive interview with Chen Xu, President of the Chinese Baseball Association. Chen Xu emphasized the significance of hosting the U-23 World Cup in mainland China, highlighting the country’s world-class stadium and the opportunity for the Chinese team to participate in a high-level competition.

Chen Xu noted that the U-23 World Cup has stringent requirements for the venue, organization, and broadcast of the event. He expressed pride in China’s ability to meet these standards, citing the country’s experience in hosting the Hangzhou Asian Games and the growth of its baseball team.

China’s baseball team has shown significant improvement in recent years, with notable victories against Japan and South Korea. Chen Xu believes that this tournament is crucial for the team’s development, particularly in preparation for the 2028 Olympics.
