‘Storage Wars’ star Darrell Sheets, known to fans as ‘The Gambler,’ was found dead in his Lake Havasu City, Arizona, home on Wednesday morning at approximately 2 a.m. Local time. The 67-year-old reality television personality was pronounced deceased at the scene after officers responded to a report of a deceased individual on Chandler Drive.
According to the Lake Havasu City Police Department, Sheets died from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. Officers located a male subject with the injury upon arrival and pronounced him deceased on scene. The department’s Criminal Investigations Unit was notified and assumed responsibility for the investigation, with the body subsequently turned over to the Mohave County Medical Examiner’s office for further examination.
Sheets gained fame through his 15-season run on A&E’s “Storage Wars,” where he earned the nickname “The Gambler” due to his tendency to make high-risk purchases during storage locker auctions. His appearances on the show spanned 163 episodes since the series premiered in 2010, often alongside his son Brandon Sheets, who also appeared on the program.
Prior to his death, Sheets resided in Lake Havasu City after previously living in California. He was born in 1958 and had worked in the antiques trade for over three decades, including owning an antiques store in Arizona after leaving the storage auction business. Sheets had reportedly suffered a heart attack in 2019, after which his appearances on “Storage Wars” became more sporadic in later seasons.
The A&E network released a statement expressing sorrow over his passing, describing him as “a beloved member of our Storage Wars family” and offering condolences to his family and loved ones. The network acknowledged his contributions to the show’s success over its 17-season run.
Following the news of his death, fellow “Storage Wars” cast member Rene Nezhoda shared a video on Instagram suggesting that Sheets had been experiencing cyberbullying online. Nezhoda stated in the video that Sheets had been posting about an individual who had been tormenting him and expressed hope that law enforcement would investigate the allegations as part of their ongoing inquiry.
Sergeant Kyle Ridgway, public information officer for the Lake Havasu City Police Department, confirmed to Fox News Digital that the department is aware of the cyberbullying accusations and that they are being considered as part of the active investigation into Sheets’ death. No further details have been released pending the completion of the medical examiner’s report and investigative findings.
The Mohave County Medical Examiner’s office will determine the official cause and manner of death, which will be made public upon completion of their analysis. Until then, the Lake Havasu City Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding Sheets’ death and urges anyone with information to contact them at (928) 855-1171.
