Mauritania’s National Union of Students Calls for Solution to University Transport Crisis
Mauritania’s National Union of Students has issued a statement calling for a solution to the “crisis” of university transport, describing it as experiencing an “unprecedented state of decline and confusion.”
The Union is demanding improvements to the university transport system, including the provision of sufficient buses designated for student transport, increased stations and lines, and transport services to institutions in the capital. The Union also emphasized the need for determining departure times for journeys to and from university institutions.
The statement highlighted the need to review the price of the daily transport ticket, which has caused a significant burden on students. The recent increase in the daily trip ticket for university transport was described as “a sudden doubling of the price by one hundred percent.”
The National Union of Students is urging the Ministry of Higher Education to take responsibility for the chaotic situation in university transport and to find a solution to the crisis. The Union holds the ministry accountable for the consequences of this situation, which is worsening day by day.
