Mexico City – Daniel Suárez, in a remarkable display of skill adn determination, secured victory in Saturday’s The Chilango 150 at Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez. The Monterrey native’s journey to the top saw him start last, piloting a backup car to a memorable win.
Following celebratory spins, Suárez, 33, emerged from his No.9 JR Motorsports Chevrolet, climbed onto its roof, and expressed his gratitude to the roaring crowd, thanking them in Spanish for their unwavering support. His role in promoting NASCAR in Mexico culminated in this emotional triumph.
“It’s everything I was looking for, just a special day,” Suárez said, reflecting on his victory. He led for 19 of the 65 laps, ultimately holding off Taylor Gray by .598 seconds. This win was made even more impressive considering the team had to rebuild the car after Suárez crashed during the morning qualifying session.
Suárez, a full-time NASCAR Cup Series driver, started the race using the “international provisional” starting position due to the qualifying incident. He navigated through the 37-car field and battled door-to-door with Gray in the final laps to secure the win.
Earlier in the race,Suárez took the lead during a three-wide restart with 19 laps to go,overtaking rookie Connor Zilisch and Ty Gibbs.Zilisch, who started on pole and led 17 laps, spun after wheel-hopping, triggering a 13-car pileup.
