November 1, 2024
The Republic of Sudan has submitted a complaint against the Republic of Chad to the African Commission on Human and People’s Rights of the African Union. The complaint, filed on behalf of the Committee for the Establishment and Follow-up of International Cases against the Rapid Support Forces of the rebels, their leaders, and the countries that support them, was authorized by the President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council.
The complaint, submitted to the African Commission’s headquarters in Banjul, Gambia, alleges Chad’s involvement in supporting and aiding the rebel Quick Aid militia in committing crimes and atrocities. These crimes include genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity, such as murder, rape, sexual violence, forced displacement, destruction of infrastructure, recruitment of children, looting of public and private property, and occupation of citizens’ homes.
The Sudanese government’s complaint provides facts, evidence, and conclusive proof of Chad’s role in supporting the rebel militia. This support has played a significant role in prolonging the war and enabling the militia to commit these heinous crimes.
