Jakarta – the Greater Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra) has appointed Foreign Minister Sugiono as its new Secretary General, a move hailed as a critically important moment for the party’s unity and its commitment to supporting President-elect Prabowo Subianto‘s management. The appointment, formalized by a decree signed by Gerindra Chairman Prabowo Subianto, marks a new chapter for the party, with Sugiono expressing his dedication to bolstering the party’s solidarity and ensuring the prosperous implementation of government programs.
A New Era for Gerindra: Strengthening Kinship and Solidarity
Sugiono emphasized that his appointment serves as a crucial momentum for the Gerindra party to reinforce its internal kinship and overall solidity. He articulated a clear vision for his tenure, focusing on actively supporting President Prabowo’s mandate.
“This determination is a momentum for the party to strengthen the kinship and solidity,” Sugiono stated. “Especially, in securing all government programs led by Prabowo.”
He further elaborated on the party’s commitment to upholding the nation’s foundational principles, pledging to assist Prabowo in fulfilling his oath of office. “And helping him fulfill his oath of office as President of the Republic of Indonesia to participate in the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia and all applicable laws,” he added.

In his acceptance speech, Sugiono conveyed his profound gratitude for the trust placed in him by the party leadership. He specifically acknowledged the contributions of his predecessor, Ahmad Muzani, who served as the Secretary General from 2008 to 2025.
“I want to say that the Greater Indonesia Movement Party would like to express my deepest gratitude and gratitude to the Secretary General of the Gerindra Party for the 2008-2025 period Mr. Ahmad Muzani,” Sugiono remarked.Sugiono also extended his appreciation to the daily chairman, Prof.Dr.Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, recognizing his long-standing dedication and instrumental role in the party’s growth since its inception. “I thank the thanks and appreciation of the Gerindra Party also to the daily chairman of Prof. dr.Sufmi Dasco Ahmad who was together since the initial establishment of the party established,raised and brought the Gerindra Party to his situation today,” he said.

The transition in leadership was officially announced by Ahmad Muzani, who shared the details of the appointment via his instagram account on Friday, August 1, 2025. The decision was made at the Padepokan Garuda Yaksa, underscoring the meaning of the location in the party’s history and operations.
“Today, Friday, August 1, 2025, at Garuda Yaksa Padepokan, Hambalang, Bogor. Gerindra Party Board Chairperson/Chairman of the Gerindra Prabowo Subianto has signed a Decree of the Appointment of @Sugiono_56 as Secretary General of the Gerindra Party,” Muzani posted, confirming the formal handover.
