A man wielding a machete was shot and killed by police on April 11, 2026, after launching a random attack on three people at the Grand Central subway station in New York City.

Authorities reported that the assailant attacked the victims on a subway platform on Saturday morning. The three victims included two older men and an older woman.

According to reporting from The New York Times, the three victims were expected to survive the injuries sustained during the platform attacks.

The suspect was fatally shot by officers during the encounter. CNN reported that the suspect referred to himself as Lucifer during the incident.

Police Response and Investigation

The New York City Police Department responded to the scene at the major transit hub in Midtown Manhattan. Police investigated the platform area where the stabbings and subsequent shooting occurred.

Evidence recovered from the scene included the machete used by the attacker to wound the three victims.
