Nintendo Switch ‍2 Webcam Compatibility: Elgato and ‍Ugreen Offer Fixes

⁢ Updated ⁢June ⁢26,2025

Some‍ of‍ the highest-rated webcams on the market currently do not function with the Nintendo Switch 2,while older models do. Elgato and Ugreen say ⁤they have pinpointed the cause of ‍the webcam compatibility issue and are preparing firmware updates⁣ for their cameras.

The problem appears to stem from how newer webcams advertise‍ their capabilities via USB.‍ The nintendo Switch ⁢2 may be selecting ⁤modes that it cannot⁣ properly support, creating webcam compatibility issues.

Elgato, ‍maker of the facecam MK.2 and Facecam Neo, plans to add a low-resolution 480p mode‍ to address the problem.Julian Fest, ⁢general⁤ manager at Elgato, speculated that the Switch 2 might⁢ onyl reliably support very low-resolution cameras to accommodate multiple facecams on screen.

However, resolution ‍alone isn’t the only factor. Nintendo’s official ‍Switch 2 camera is a 1080p ⁤camera, and many other high-resolution cameras also work. Ugreen told The Verge that ⁣the technical requirements for ⁢ webcam compatibility with the console are more complex than just resolution,‍ frame rate, or USB version.

Gabrielle Wang,a Ugreen⁣ spokesperson, said that a camera must⁤ avoid advertising modes or protocols that⁢ the Switch might ⁢not recognize or⁤ be unable ⁣to ⁤use. Ugreen identified⁤ three conditions that must be met⁤ simultaneously⁣ for a camera to function correctly with the switch⁢ 2.

  • The camera must ⁢not use the HID protocol.
  • The camera must ⁤be configured for Isochronous transfer mode.
  • The USB⁤ endpoint descriptors must not ⁢include unsupported low ⁢frame rate settings (below ⁣30 fps).

These specifications are not typically listed on product packaging. However, they can be checked⁤ using⁢ tools⁤ like USBView on a connected PC.

Ugreen plans to release updates by the end of June for its CM826 / 55512,⁤ CM797 / 45644, and CM825 / 75330 cameras. The company says⁣ its CM678 / 15728, CM778 / 35626, CM717 / 25442, CM825 ‍/⁢ 55721, and CM831 / 65381 models already work‍ with ⁣the‍ Switch 2.

it remains to be seen whether Nintendo will address the webcam compatibility issue with ⁤a system update. The company declined to⁢ comment.
